ROG/Tonnage Increase/Modification: This category is for mariners who are advancing, expanding, or adjusting their existing Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC). These actions allow you to elevate your authority, increase the size or horsepower of vessels you are permitted to serve on, or modify your endorsements to reflect new qualifications, routes, or operational needs.
A raise of grade moves you into a higher level of responsibility — such as AB to Mate, QMED to Assistant Engineer, or Mate to Master. A tonnage or horsepower increase expands the vessels you are authorized to serve on. Modifications allow you to add, remove, or adjust endorsements based on new training, sea service, or career direction.
